If you're not familiar with the original game, Betrayal at House on the Hill has players take on characters investigating an old creepy house. One player ends up betraying the others and works against the group to try and help whatever evil entity is part of that particular scenario. The cooperative players try to meet certain requirements to escape or otherwise defeat the big bad and win the game.
Betrayal Legacy takes the core from BaHotH and meshes it with legacy game mechanics, like legacy Risk or Pandemic, where as you play the game it is changed, updated, and essentially permanently altered. The choices that players make affect the rest of the game and there generally isn't any option for a do over or replay.
Betrayal Legacy is a semi-cooperative campaign board game that tells an overarching story of the House on the Hill incorporating the actions and choices of the players.
Over the course of the campaign, the game is permanently altered until players are left with a fully customizable, re-playable board game version of the critically-acclaimed Betrayal at House on the Hill.
Betrayal Legacy is a stand-alone experience designed in partnership by Avalon Hill and award-winning “legacy” designer, Rob Daviau.
Fans of the original Betrayal at House on the Hill will enjoy this fresh take on the classic game, however, there’s no previous experience is necessary to play—even players new to the brand can jump in, explore, and affect the spooky history of the legendary House on the Hill.
The other game I received was Space Alert, a gift from my sister as recommended from one of her coworkers who said they really enjoyed this game. It has a fairly high rating on BGG and honestly, I'd never heard of it, total surprise when I opened it. Overall, though, it sounds like it will be a fun game to get onto the table with the right group. It even has a new expansion available which is pretty cool.
Lol, this vid:Space Alert is a team survival game. Players take on the role of a crew of space explorers sent out through hyperspace to survey a dangerous sector of the Galaxy. The pace of the game is set by 10-minute soundtracks on included CDs (or by scenario cards, if you don’t have a CD player). During these 10 minutes, the crew must defend the ship while it scans the enemy sector. If they succeed, the ship brings back valuable data. If they fail… it is time to train a new crew.
Players do not compete against each other. Instead, they work together against the challenge presented by the game. The difficulty of this challenge can be chosen by the players themselves. Completing the most difficult missions requires close teamwork.
