As the post mentions, the drive of the campaign seems to be somewhat of a railroad, however, with a large campaign like this, I'm always under the impression that it will be something of a railroad. I don't really see it any different that say, the adventure path series that Pathfinder puts out, or the large adventures put out by WotC for 5th edition, heck of even the new MoN for CoC 7e. Those campaigns aren't designed to be a sandbox for the PC to just wander around creating their own scenarios in which to play, they are written to present and play through a specific event, from beginning to end. Even back in the days of WFRP 1e, I think this adventure would still be considered more of a railroad style than open world, but that's just my opinion.grodog wrote: ↑November 22nd, 2019, 9:36 pm Reviewed at ENWorld: https://www.enworld.org/threads/enemy-w ... ew.668419/
Allan.
I'll be interested in taking a closer look at the the adventure in detail, to see just how much railroading it presents. If the players have options for short side treks or multiple options for leading to the same conclusion then I wouldn't be too worried with how it plays out.

Other than the "mistaken identity" schtick at the beginning of the campaign, I didn't recall it being very railroady BITD, but I was playing it and not DMing it, which makes for a different POV, of course
(And FWIW I've always considered Masks a sandbox, even before I knew the term sandbox!).
On the WFRPG front, I recently picked up a copy of Tim Eccles' _A Private War_ and am looking forward to checking that out as part of the EW campaign structure. It's coming over from the UK, so it'll be a couple of weeks before it arrives, I'm sure.

Some updated release info for Warhammer in 2020:
Allan.
Additional non-EW stuff is mentioned too; full info @ https://www.enworld.org/threads/wfrp-re ... 20.669697/Q1 -- Death on the Reik (Enemy Within). The Enemy Within campaign will continue with Death on the Reik and its companion volume. While the party enjoys the freedom of life on the rivers of the Empire, dark forces are gathering and a terrible countdown has begun. Something dark and terrible radiates with foul energy beneath a seat of ancient nobility, and those whose hearts belong to the Ruinous Powers grow more daring in their pursuit of any who would dare defy them. And somewhere, nestled close to the Empire’s heart, The Power Behind the Throne grows stronger.
Q3 -- Middenheim – City of the White Wolf. Middenheim – City of the White Wolf provides a wealth of detail about the greatest city state of the Old World, both before and after the events of The Enemy Within.
Q4 -- Altdorf. A detailed map created by the now-mad cartographer Uswald the Fastidious. A wealth of locations, NPCs and plot hooks to engage any group. An exploration of the political and religious structures of the Empire, both before and after the events of The Enemy Within. New talents, endeavours, and combat options.
