Oh, right. Just watched the start of the video. I loved the dwarf reference that I had totally forgotten was part of the Tolkien world, and which finally made obvious Terry Pratchett's nod to Tolkien in the way he portrays Dwarves and makes some fascinating statements on the war of the sexes. Anyway, I get how if you're a rules lawyer you would not be okay with the way Amazon is handling its "Rings of Power," but I think I'm pretty okay with their artistic license, and will reserve judgement for the actual production.
Deil the Yin wrote: February 18th, 2022, 8:03 am What? How is this even plausible? If the Tolkien Estate wouldn't let TSR use the term "Hobbit," they certainly wouldn't let a company make millions from pages upon pages of copyrighted material of the Tolkien universe.
Necron 99 wrote: February 18th, 2022, 7:04 am I had seen a few other clips and even some articles discussing this same topic. That Amazon didn't actually get the rights to do the "real" Tolkien stuff. If I had to guess, this is probably the reason that Shippey and Amazon parted ways and they hired on someone else to push as "the scholar". Since he was essentially representing the Tolkien Estate, I figure Amazon pitched their ideas, Shippey and the Tolkien Estate either didn't concur, or didn't feel it represented Tolkien's work authentically and said Amazon could do "something", but it wasn't going to be considered anything equal to Tolkien's cannon.

And here's another one...

Here's one that's pretty recent. JRRT fans are going to be profoundly disappointed in the forthcoming series.

This shit just keeps getting worse.

I saw the Nerdrotic one about the "superfans", after which, is about the time I decided to be done with anything related to this series. When a company tries to run interference with a video about fans of Tolkien's work that are considered "superfans" and not a single one of them is a white, nerdy dude over the age of 40, then you know everything that is about to be said is absolute garbage. There are no superfans of Tolkien's work under the age of 40, sorry Amazon, but no. And can I also say that superfan is f*cking stupid term; you're either a fan, or you're not.

Besides, you know who else are "superfans"? Stalkers. Ask Andrés Escobar, John Lennon, and Selena how things turned for them with their "superfans". Enough said.

At this point with the entire thing, I've railed enough against the new series. I've seen enough videos to know I wasn't mistaken in my assessment of the trailer. I won't be watching it, I won't even be watching reviews or mockeries of the series when they start hitting Youtube. I'm just not going to bother on any level, to follow such a dumpster fire in any form. If other people watch and enjoy it, well good for them. However, much like Jackson's Hobbit trilogy, I know enough now, before seeing even the first episode, to know it just isn't worth my time.

I have Rankin-Bass, I have Bakshi, I have Jackson's extended LotR. Most importantly though, I have my entire Tolkien collection. Multiple copies of all the books in their original, unaltered entirety. Everything and everyone else concerned with modernizing, progressing, and diversifying Tolkien's work can happily piss off.

Good vid and spot on as usual. I saw it pop up on my YT recommend last week but never got around to watching.

Adrian Paul, from the well known Highlander series, gives his thoughts on the state of movies and tv, as it pertains to diversity hires and roles.

Not a chat, but relevant to the differences we've discussed between movies then, and now. Lol. This one gave me a chuckle.
