Kilmer was always one of my favorite actors in the 80s. Real Genius is hands down, one of my top three favorite comedy films from that decade.
I wasn't sure if he was going to be in the new Top Gun film, and I was disappointed to not have seen his character in the upcoming Willow series trailer. Seeing this video and the mention that he will be in the series is beyond awesome, it's great to see that he'll be showing up again after being absent from the screen for so long.

This is a scene from season 1 of Reacher. Definitely one of the reasons I enjoyed watching it. Lots of good, old fashion ass-kickin' scenes.
This is another good fight scene from the prison, but someone added music from the PC Game, DOOM and it fits really well.

I'm about two-thirds of the way through my audio book of IT and noticed the other day that Chapter One of the new version is now on Netflix. Been a while since I've seen the first movie, so I thought I'd give it a watch again. I noticed something pretty cool in the early scenes of the film. I had forgotten that the new movies were set in the 80s, instead of the original 1950s. While Bill is helping his brother Georgie with his boat, the camera shows an AD&D DMG cover poster on the wall behind them. It's pretty blurry and almost too dark to see, but it's definitely unmistakable for anyone who's seen it.

I haven't been actively watching or keeping up with any of the hub-bub surrounding the new Amazon Rings of Power series, but both of these videos popped up on my YT feed today and while I knew the Tolkien Society was just a bunch of grifting d-bags claiming to be the ultimate Tolkien fan base, I never realized to what extent their d-baggery reached.

I was OK listening to the guy talk about JRRT and examining what he found on sites posted by alleged scholars. But then he had to go inject his own abortion politics and the recent Roe v Wade SCOTUS decision. I don't know this d-bag from the man in the moon and sure don't want to hear him discuss his views on abortion. Nice way for him to lose a potential listener.Necron 99 wrote: ↑July 6th, 2022, 7:54 pm I haven't been actively watching or keeping up with any of the hub-bub surrounding the new Amazon Rings of Power series, but both of these videos popped up on my YT feed today and while I knew the Tolkien Society was just a bunch of grifting d-bags claiming to be the ultimate Tolkien fan base, I never realized to what extent their d-baggery reached.

Wow, so apparently Star Trek has taken a huge nose-dive in quality after an episode from the latest series, Star Trek: Strange New Worlds. You can watch the vid, if you feel so inclined. I saved the vid at the 10 minute mark, since that is where most of the info begins.
This is soooooo bad, the writers behind this should all be flogged. The only thing I'm going to say, is that I'm glad I'm not watching any current iterations of this show...based on this review, just ugh. The Abrams movies were one thing, not great but ok, to think this is where the legacy has gotten, just awful.

Abrams ruined Trek for me in 2009. I disliked it enough to wash my hands of Nu-Trek. I've seen snippets of ST: Picard on YouTube and all of them have been bad. Some were exceptionally bad. Some of the basic ideas were good in theory (Q showing up after all the years after TNG ended) but were botched by the writers. All the reviews from folks like The Drinker and friends who watched other Nu-Trek are pretty universal in its awfulness.
Lazy writing should be a death knell for any show. Combining lazy writing with dumbassery leads to the results in the above linked video. I'm so glad my instincts to not become invested in Nu-Trek were spot on.
Why Modern Movies Suck - They're Written By Children... (focus on Star Trek)

Interview with CD discussing the ruination of movies and TV coming out of Hollywood and Disney due to the interjection of politics.
