Some insight in to the life of Sandahl Bergman, who played Valeria in Conan the Barbarian.

I've not watched any of the earlier DC movies, but caught this scene from Dawn of Justice and I think it might be a movie I need to check out. Batman kicking arse is always a fun time.

The Pink Panther movies were a huge staple from my childhood. I must have watched them a hundred times growing up, I remember that scene immensely, always made me laugh.

F*cking Disney.

The first two episodes of the new Willow series dropped today, so I crashed out on the couch this evening to give it a looks see. Aside from the trailer, which I thought looked really good, I've not bothered to follow up on anything else so I could go into it with a somewhat positive outlook.

19 minutes, 38 seconds. That's how long it took for the show to shatter it all and for me to stop watching and turn it off.

From the get go, the actors/actresses they picked, aside from Joanne Whalley (Sorsha), are HORRIBLE. There's absolutely zero effort in them to portray characters that you'd expect from the movie, or really any medieval, fantasy setting. No kidding, the "young" characters which I assume will be the focus of the story, not actually Willow himself, act and talk as if they are literally from the modern world. Their mannerisms and choice of verbiage, it all just sounds like something you'd expect from a movie like High School Musical or any of the Disney original films and sitcom shows. Just utterly atrocious.

You can't help but notice right away, the "diverse" characters around the castle and within the kingdom. This was my first clue that the wokeness was going to be ever present.

You meet queen Sorsha and there is mention of Mamartigan, he's described as having been a knight of some order, but then they quickly devolve into how he's just the father who up and left his wife and kids. Not sure if that's all there is to it or if they actually have some reasoning behind the absentee father narrative. Outside of the show, I get that Val Kilmer wouldn't be able to reprise the role so, idk.

The prince (son of Sorsha and Madmartigan) seems to be cast as a Madmartigan wanna be. Comes off as a woman chaser and whatnot, but the character and actor playing the prince just felt forced, and fell flat, imo.

The story though is focused on the "princess" (daughter of Sorsha and Madmartigan, but not sure if she is actually Ellora Danan or not) who is sword-fighting with her best friend on top of some cliff, you get the vibe of "oh look, here are the two, strong, bad-ass women", but not in the good way like you saw with Sorsha in the original movie. This one feels forced, because you have these two, teenage girls in armor doing all this flashy, sword play knowing good and damn well, they've never been in a fight, ever. At least with Sorsha, you could tell she'd seen action, she was a warrior.

The princess is then called back to the castle along with the prince where they get cleaned up to meet another royal family from another kingdom nearby. You find out that the princess is supposed to marry the prince of said other family...the next day.

Like, wtf? It's completely out of left field, there's no lead up, there's no prior knowledge, hell, the entire castle and everyone in it doesn't even act like there's going to be a royal wedding the very next day. And you can't even tell whether or not the princess knew about this all along or just sprung on her and she's like, "yeah, sure, whatever".

We find out that the princess' best friend is leaving to become a knight, the same order that Madmartigan was, and that she "just happens" to be the first female to be accepted into this order of knights. Of course she f*cking is, she's a strong, independent, teenage woman who can kick all sorts of arse and stuff.

So the best friend tells the princess this and the princess gets all pissed off that she has to marry this rando other royal prince, instead of leaving out on grand adventure into the unknown, which prompts her to make a scene during dinner popping off that she's unhappy or some angsty shit, idk, I started to lose interest at this point.

Her brother, tries to step in and calm things down but makes it worse, then Sorsha shows up and disciplines them both, sending them to bed and says they'll apologize in the morning to the other family and then the princess will marry rando-prince from the other family and unite the realms...and blah, blah, blah...

The next scene is the princess dressed in thief-looking clothing sneaking into the room of her bestie, who is sleeping, jumps on top of her waking her up, and tells her that she is leaving the castle. That she isn't going to marry the rando-prince, that she has a destiny and plans to gtfo. The friend is like, wtf are you talking about and then they start making out...no shit...

The Disney woke bullshit, again, making it's debut into something where it absolutely does not belong. That was the 19 min, 38sec mark when I said, "f*ck this garbage" and shut it off.

That's certainly disappointing. But, on the other hand, why waste time with a shit show? ;)

That's lazy, shitty writing and performances from actors who don't understand or don't give a shit under a director who doesn't understand or give a shit.

Disney has been pushing / forcing the diversity checklist for several years now. I could see it being reasonable if the setting was a large metropolitan center of commerce with regular traffic from many different regions. I've not seen the original Willow for decades so don't recall much about the setting in the film.

Part of the diversity checklist is that most men are weak and/or stupid and/or of low character and/or not to be taken seriously and/or unworthy of respect. Taking a cool character like Mad Martigan and turning him into a deadbeat dad is a fine job of character assassination.

Disney almost always favors its female characters.

The part about finding out so early that the princess is supposed to marry the prince from another family the very next day is just more shitty, lazy writing and poor pacing. Within the first 19 minutes the characters aren't established and allowed to develop in order to make the surprise arranged marriage more impactful.

Historically speaking, most males who became knights were squires their teen years. The knighthood typically came around 20-21, IIRC. Having the underage bestie be the first female EVER admitted to a knightly order is just pandering to the audience and a wasted opportunity to show determination, struggle, and perseverance against adversity that could eventually pay off in a rewarding fashion. For example: as awful as Game of Thrones season 8 was overall, one of the few bright spots was when Brienne of Tarth finally achieved her goal of knighthood when Jamie Lannister bestowed the honor upon her that she earned after seven seasons.

Oh boo hoo. "I can't go on a grand adventure so waaaaaaaaaaah!" In a medieval society, princesses are supposed to be married off to form alliances with other Houses or kingdoms. As a cultural norm, I'd guess the parents taught the princess that was the way things are so I'll lump that in with shitty, lazy writing. At least when Arya pooed pooed the idea of being married off to some prince in GoT season 1, she was a preadolescent, tomboy little girl so it made more sense.

Thanks for the 4-1-1 on the new show. Being a Disney product, I had no hopes for the new Willow, especially after the way they completely ruined Star Wars.

Well, I'm glad to see I wasn't wrong, and also glad I turned the show off before getting further in. You can skip to about the 4:00min mark to get into the actual show info.

"Girl POWWAR"

And another one which shows more of the behind the scene decisions.
