Gawdamn. That's got to be one of the worst pieces of shit inflicted (I won't say 'produced') in recent memory. No wonder the director doesn't list his/her real name but prefers to remain hidden under "Director X." :sick2: :poo:

You know I have a feeling a studio Exec was involved in this awful adaptation of one of my favorite stories. So Director X may be a requirement from whoever they paid to create this trash to save his own reputation.

Speaking of Studio Execs though I heard rumors there is a Les Grossman (Tom Cruise in Tropic Thunder) film in the future. Now that is something I could get excited about.

Growing up, Disney films and television were a staple in my house. We owned many Disney movies on VHS and just about always watched the Disney feature on Sunday evenings. But this was the Disney under it's founder, Walt Disney, who's vision of the company and what it stands for is far divorced from the modern Disney company, today.

Below is the Disney short from 1937, The Old Mill, one of their many Silly Symphony animated bits. It's a fun 8 minute watch, blending original Disney animation with music and vocal sound effect, creating an imaginative, simple story, without spoken words.

Continuing with chat about Disney, I was watching the original TRON film earlier this week and noticed something hilarious. I screen captured the shot below. As an 8yo kid watching this back in 1982, the words on his cube wall meant absolutely nothing (the original Evil Dead came out in '81) but now that I'm older and wiser, it gave me a chuckle.

Sounds like another series ruined by "the message".

The 15th Doctor...

I've said it before... canon matters. Screwing around with long-established canon is a disservice to fans, regardless of the medium.

Well, he isn't wrong by any stretch. Lol.

And the thing is, if you actually read the books or watch those movies, you'll see that one of the most pivotal moments in the story, surrounds the strength and awesomeness that is a female character. But I guess Éowyn wasn't good enough for some people. And don't forget what Galadriel did for the Fellowship. How different, hypothetically, may the stories have gone if she had not had the foresight and wisdom to give them words and gifts which in some cases <cough> Phial of Galadriel <cough> would have meant the demise of Frodo and others. Heck, if was the gift of seed and soil that she gave to Sam that helped to rebuild The Shire. Sure, she wasn't in the front ranks, leading armies, and storming the battle field, but she played a valuable role nonetheless.

Emphasis mine.
I'm going to go our on limb here and and speculate that most of the folks griping and moaning about lack of grrl power in the Rings books probably haven't read them.

Without Arwen (in the Fellowship film), Frodo is captured by the Nazgul, the Ring is recovered for Sauron, and the Quest fails. Period.

Without Galadriel, the Quest fails. Period.

Without Eowyn (and her bringing Merry to Pelennor Fields), the Witch King survives to perhaps return to Minas Tirith and finish off Gandalf whom he had on the ropes. Kill Gandalf and the morale of the Men fails. End game.

I'm glad to have the Professor's novels and PJ's films which just focus on telling good stories and not try to preach identity politics.
