Drinker and Star Wars...it's as bad as you'd expect.

I started watching the new Prime series, Zorro. Good story that takes its time to unfold, action, and a very slight mystic / weird touch without going overboard for the setting. I like it!

It's no secret that I detest much of what comes out on television or at the movies these days. Most new stuff is just garbage, often pushing "the message" or otherwise subverting the core fan base of said shows and films.
But every once in a while I run across something that catches my attention and turns out to not only, not suck, but really entertaining. Recently, while looking for some shows to watch with my daughter, I stumbled onto a Hulu original series called Fright Krewe. It's an animated series that gives off a vibe of "Buffy meets Scooby Doo meets Captain Planet", though the kids are early teens in age.
The great thing with this show, in my opinion, is that you can have a modern show, with diverse characters and female lead, etc. while still writing enjoyable plots and overall story, because it all makes sense and works in the context of the show. The lead character is Soleil Le Claire, a young black girl in New Orleans, who has a penchant for the scary and the supernatural. Written to be fairly smart and unafraid, she's not written as some unstoppable "girl boss" like so many other shows. The krewe is comprised of a variety of other characters, all of various background and ethnicity. And it is contextually written well, the show is set in New Orleans and revolves around Voodoo religion and mythology. The kids unknowingly unleash a demon that had been trapped and have to find a way to stop it before things get bad. The kids each, are given a power by one of five loas, a loa being essentially a god from the Voodoo religion.
This is a case where the writers didn't resort to just gender or race swapping a previous show, they came up with an original, creative idea, wrote out the setting and characters in a way that makes absolute, logical sense, and made an entertaining show worth watching. I've watch the first four episodes of season one and it's been completely enjoyable. I hope more writers and producers reach a point where getting back to good story-telling is the focus of what comes out.

Definitely hope this is true, I would love to see a return to good, ole fashion entertainment without any agendas or "The Message".

We finished both seasons of Fright Krewe and give it a This show was quite heavily influenced by Buffy the Vampire Slayer, IMO - a good thing!

Started watching The X-Files a bit ago, currently only into early 2nd season, but it sparked some nostalgia to watch several old shows from the 90s and 2ks that I haven't seen since the original airing. Started putting together a list of shows that I want to revisit. Below is what I currently have in the line-up to watch, as time permits.
- The X-Files
- Millennium
- Sliders
- Stargate-SG1
- Buffy/Angel
- Freak and Geeks
- Young Indiana Jones Chronicles
- Highlander
- Hercules/Xena
- Roswell
- Smallville
- Adventures of Brisco County Junior
- Primeval (2007)
- Warehouse 13
- Eureka
- Haven
- Fringe
- Grimm
- Samurai Jack
- Firefly
- Dark Angel
- Sleepy Hollow
- Supernatural
