Been listening to some Queen again this week. This tune, A Kind of Magic, from the 1986 album of the same name has quietly become one of my favorites from the band. The album was the soundtrack for Highlander...

Blast from the past for anyone who watched animated films back in the late 70s, early 80s. These days, we don't get the bad-ass, gonzo animated movies that we had back then, such a shame too.

Back on 11/24/19, two musicians and performers important to a lot of people died much too early in their lives.

Freddie Mercury, the front man for Queen. Everyone knows his story. Only in recent years have I started listening to more of Queen's music besides the songs Bohemian Rhapsody and Another One Bites the Dust. I missed out on a lot of good music by Queen back in the day.

Eric Carr, the drummer for KISS from 1980-91. A multi-instrumentalist, he replaced Peter Criss in the band. Throughout the 80s, Carr was regularly voted best rock drummer by fans in magazine polls even when other bands were more popular and had greater record sales. I saw him in concert twice: Winter 1988 and Summer 1990 on tours in Atlanta. His mid-show drum solos were definitely stand out moments for me. Carr was known as a kind and humble person who always enjoyed interacting with fans. Starting at age 6, I've been a lifelong fan of KISS and was particularly fond of Carr. I remember where I was and who I was with the evening his death at age 41 from heart cancer broke on the evening news. It hit me like a punch to the chest. As a personal acknowledgement to Eric, I'm posting Carr Jam 1991, written by him and Ace Frehley, as the last track from the 1991 KISS album, Revenge, which features the only drum solo he recorded in the studio.

Here is an in-concert drum solo from a 22-Apr-88 show which Carr performed at the show I saw in February that same year.

And one more from 14-Oct-91 with some extra bits added for the show.

Rock on, Eric Carr!

Years ago when the Xbox 360 was big, I played a game that to this day is still one of my all time favorites, Alan Wake. In the game, you play Alan Wake, a popular writer who, along with his wife, leaves the big city to settle in a small, quiet, mountain town, to find some solitude and write the next best seller. Shortly after arriving though, his wife goes missing and a somewhat strange, supernatural adventure begins to find her. Along the way Alan encounters "the darkness" an entity which creates shadowy doppelgangers of the townsfolk (and some animals) who try to stop Alan at every turn; Alan's only defense is to use any source of light possible to fight and destroy them. Aside from the great game itself, there was a pretty awesome soundtrack that even today, I still listen to. One of my favorite songs, The Poet and the Muse, more or less tells the overall story but I never realized it had an actual video made using some of the game footage. I ran across it today on YT and thought it would make a cool addition to the thread.

There are two kinds of people in the world:
1. Those who know Die Hard is the greatest X-mas movie ever
and
2. Those who are wrong.

To celebrate the season, here is a cut that makes Argyle say, "This IS Christmas music!"

AGREED!
Controversy aside, this is a Christmas carol as well!

HAHA! Great posts, I'd almost forgot about Run's Christmas in Hollis, yep, that's definitely a good Christmas song.

Ron, that carol by Dropkick Murphy is now one of my favs, thanks for the link.
