RuneQuest: Roleplaying in Glorantha.

Has anyone else on this board tried RuneQuest: Roleplaying in Glorantha, the latest edition of Runequest? I have been playing in a RuneQuest: Roleplaying in Glorantha campaign for the last couple of months and I am really liking it so far. I have a GM that is a long time fan, is excited for the game and is a great story teller (He should be. He is a published novelist) and his excitement has carried over to the players. It certainly is a hell of lot more complex than D&D or my beloved Castles and Crusades and I certainly hope my character doesn't die because created another one would be a time consuming task that I would rather not undertake again but the GM knows the rules more than well enough to keep the game running smoothly, even in epic battles.

I've not tried RuneQuest: Roleplaying in Glorantha but I did play a session of Mythus at Gen Con a few years back. Mythus, a d100 system, grew out of RuneQuest. I had a good time with the game! If I were to find a Mythus event at a convention, I'd sign up for a change of pace.
Decades ago I saw a Glorantha product with anthropomorphic duck people in it and just said, "No." IIRC, practically everyone in Glorantha can use magic of some sort. My tastes run in more the opposite direction; magic should be less common and a little more special when it occurs. When those tidbits are combined, I just have no interest in the Glorantha setting.
Any special nuggets from the campaign you're playing in that you'd like to share, whether adventure related or system related?

Combat is BRUTAL in this system which forces you to choose your fights carefully. Often, you have the option of taking someone hostage since every character has a ransom value so there is an financial incentive to not killing some of your opponents. I typically like campaigns/games were magic is rare and even dangerous but everyone having magic does work for the Glorantha setting. There is certainly a mythic and primal feel to the setting and I am enjoying it. It is also a bronze age setting. My warrior has two iron swords which gives him a great advantage in hand to hand combat.
I own Mythus and I am thinking about using it in a gritter game that I hope to run in the future.
The anthropomorphic ducks are actually a sore spot in our campaign. A few of us, myself included, did not want to include them, at least as player characters but we were outvoted. I think some people chose to play duck characters just to spite those of us that did not want them included. I took some satisfaction when they complained that they didn't get a damage bonus. My response was, "No one made you play a duck so don't bitch about it them being weak."

I have never played RQ or in the Glorantha setting. I'd be up for trying it with the right group and GM.
In regards to settings where everyone has/uses magic, I hear a lot of good things about Earthdawn. Supposedly even fighter types use magic but everything I've read said it makes sense and work for the game, instead of against it.

Emphasis mine.
Good to hear! Combat should be
scary and not always the first resort to conflict resolution. I like a system that makes that notion work. I also like the notion of taking a for hostage rather than killing him so as to return for ransom. There is something Middle Ages about that.
I'd enjoy hearing your thoughts on running Mythus should you decide to do so. I own a copy of Mythus and the Mythic Britain supplements but so far have not used them.
Ha! Nice that those who sought to spite you must now live with the consequences. Karma, baby!

I played in an Earthdawn campaign back around 2010-11. Maaaaaaaan, talk about some crazy high amounts of magic!

I haven't played the newer versions of RQ and never played it all BITD, but I've played a few games and/or clone-like-analogues of RQ2 over the past decade, and enjoyed them. Never an ongoing campaign, though. The setting intrigues me, and I really enjoy the Griselda short stories from Oliver Dickinson (which were, ironically, my first introduction to RQ BITD via White Dwarf back when I was a teen, and they were also what turned me off of it at the time
).

In our next game, my character and is adventuring companions are set to engage in honorable combat in the Temple of Death with our hated rivals the Grey Dogs. I am actually hoping that our mutual enemies, the Lunars disrupt the fight so that we will be forced to fight together against those that have oppressed both of our tribes. Although the Grey Dogs are our enemies, we are the same people and perhaps together we can purge the city of Boldhome of the Lunar scum!

That would be a cool angle for the GM to utilize.
How many PCs are in your party?
How many members constitute the Grey Dogs?
How many Lunars are there?
Let us know how mass combat flows in RQ when all is said and done!

I have dropped the idea in the GM's head already. He liked it. Hey make have already thought of it himself. He is a published novelist after all. He has great ideas for adventures.
How many PCs are in your party?
8
How many members constitute the Grey Dogs?
8. It will be one on one.
How many Lunars are there?
Hundreds. No, thousands. That should make the odds about even!
