Some of the players, in addition to myself, in past campaigns have created PC journals in which we retell events of adventures. Its always interesting to read the descriptions of events from the characters, not the players, involved.
This adventure was played using the Warhammer Fantasy RolePlay 2e system. Notes for every session were not available so the journal entries begin as one adventure winds down and another begins.
My PC, Albrecht (apprentice wizard), is a human male in his mid 20s having pale gray eyes and copper colored hair. He is slight of build at 5'9" and 155 pounds. In addition to the attention his eye and hair color merits, he wears a stud-ring in his nose. Albrecht tries to pass himself off as a scholar due to the mistrust and fear of magic common among peasants.
Most of the posts in this thread will be from Albrecht's POV.
The other PCs, all in their first career, are
Grondel - human thief
Dax - dwarf militiaman
Rudiger - human thug
Palen - human mercenary
Eldillor - elf outrider
Gottfried - human pit fighter
Jared - human initiate of Ulric (mentioned but not present)
N.B. The sessions for this adventure occurred in the 2006 time frame. Forthcoming entries may be edited from the original postings for style and presentation.

A new day dawns on the hamlet of Ostenwald following the long night of terror. I hope it brings with it better times for the poor souls living here.
After a few hours of sleep I feel ready to investigate the burial chamber of Artuta. I confess to feeling less than comfortable even writing his (its?) name. The followers of Chaos always make me feel uneasy but putting to rest the spirit of the beastman shaman was, without doubt, the right thing to do. I'm sure Master Solomon would approve.
I'll ask Grondel and Dax to accompany me to the burial chamber. Rudiger and the mercenary are in no condition to help me due to a sudden onset of a virulent case of the galloping trots. I wonder if the greasy spirit of the beastman is having the last laugh...

Grondel and Dax accompanied me to the well. Only last night, amid the terror of the beastmen and pounding thunderstorm, the blackness of the well shaft seemed a certain gateway to Morr's embrace. Desperate times called for desperate measures...
Dax remained on the surface to pull us up if we required help. I descended once more into the shaft then exited at the passageway leading to the chamber. The runes of chaos painted on the walls were unchanged. The more I looked at them the more I disliked them. I unsheathed my broadsword and made to scratch them from existence. To my surprise (and embarrassment), I was hurled backwards by a jolt of dark magic! A lesson learned and a note to self - hurl mud, paint, or whatever else is suitable onto chaos runes to besmirch them.
Grondel joined me in the passage. Together we entered the burial chamber wherein the vengeful spirit was put to rest. We searched by torchlight. Grondel found a hole in the stone floor large enough for a man to insert an arm. He did so then removed several old, but perfectly serviceable, crowns, shillings and four gemstones; two blue, one red, and one green. Having examined some gems during my training at the College of Wizardry, I tried to evaluate their worth. In that I failed but noticed a peculiar oddity. In the middle of one of the blue stones was the image of an axe and in the red stone was the image of a sword. Not knowing the significance of the odd stones, we lumped them with the coins.
We searched the rest of the chamber and on our way out and noticed two small depressions in the wall above the door. Grondel examined them and discovered the rune of an axe beside one and a sword beside the other. Grondel took the blue stone and I the red. We inserted them simultaneously which triggered a quaking with a rumbling noise! Dust fell from the ceiling and I thought my earlier assessment of the shaft was coming to fruition. A large stone slab at the back of the chamber slid down into the floor to reveal a smaller chamber with two pedestals. Upon one was an exceptional longsword. A masterwork quality battle axe lay upon the other.
I took a deep breath and let slip my mind into the Aethyr so as to gauge the winds of magic. I saw glowing runes along the blade of the sword and the haft of the axe! Ranald showed great favor with such a boon!
We put the gems back with the coins. I decided to wrap my cloak around the sword and fit it through my belt. Grondel picked up the axe. As we did so, the pedestals began to sink into the floor and the quaking resumed. We turned and saw a stone slab sliding down to seal the doorway to the main chamber! We ran for the exit. Grondel slid beneath the slab and made it into the passageway. I stumbled and fell short of the doorway, hearing the heavy booming sound of the stone slab as it hit the floor. I was sealed in the underground burial chamber of a chaos servant, alone, and in the dark.

The rumbling stopped and the dust settled. I listened intently for any sound of Grondel or Dax trying to free me. Silence.
Normally I would light a torch or lantern for illumination but, not knowing how long I might be entombed and faced with a limited air supply, opted to tap the Aethyr and summoned Glowing Lights onto the blade of my sword. The chamber was unchanged.
I used the hilt of my sword to hit the slab blocking the way out. Hoping to be heard by Grondel or Dax, I continued striking the slab. After a few minutes, I decided to try and find my own way out.
Perhaps half an hour after being trapped, I remembered the two peculiar gems in my slingbag. I reasoned that since the gems opened the hidden chamber they might also open the main doorway and set me free. Success! The slab recessed into the ceiling and I walked into the passageway where I found Dax and Grondel. We were not alone.

Where to start? As I lie here in my bed reflecting on the day's events I am fairly amazed that we have all survived. Rudiger and Palen have both been stricken with a foul affliction though which I pray to Ulrik I can avoid.
We were all so relieved to escape Artuta's grasp alive we left the foul place that I can only assume to have been his lair. Mayhap it was but a tomb, in either case we left with due haste. I have spoken with Albrecht this very evening and we have agreed that another look at Artuta's tomb down the well might be worth while. We will ask Dax to accompany us in the morning. Dax has proven to be a solid ally as well as a powerful warrior and I am glad he is with us.
A stroke of good fortune has fallen our way though, the people in this small town of Ostenwald have opened their arms to us and now view us as heroes so to speak. I believe we will always be welcomed here and have a place to stay if needed.
An early morning awaits me.

What a day! Early this morning Albrecht and I returned to the well with Dax accompanying us. Dax decided to stay at the top to help pull us up if necessary. Albrecht and I descended into the well and found the tunnel that led to Artuta's final resting place. As we approached the entrance to the tomb I saw Albrecht draw his sword and begin to scrape over the runes adorned the wall of the tunnel. As soon as his sword touched the first rune a loud noise not unlike the sound of bacon frying in the skillet sounded and a flash momentarily blinded me! As I regained my sight I saw Albrecht's hand shaking and heard him curse. He tried hard to belittle the episode but I could tell it had shaken him.
We entered the tomb quietly and I instantly headed for the sarcophagus to inspect it closely. I sifted through the dust and remains until I found a loose stone in the bottom. I pulled the stone out and lowered my torch to try and look down the hole that the stone had been inserted into. Sure enough, the glint of coin reflected back into my eyes as I happily called Albrecht over. A nice haul was inventoried, the most interesting of which were 4 gems. A red gem, a green gem and 2 blue gems. I tried to recall what such gems might be worth, but could not remember. Albrecht examined them closely and although he could not put a value to them, he found a small symbol carved into the red and one of the blue gems. The red gem had a small sword and the blue gem a small axe. We began looking over the room closely and were about to leave when Albrecht spied to smalls holes above the entrance to the tomb. As we looked closely it occurred to me that they looked to be the same size as the gems with the symbols carved in them. We quickly decided that the gems must have some significance therein so we simultaneously inserted the gems into the holes. A great rumble sounded and the ground itself began to shake. I started for the door with Albrecht close behind as dirt and rubble began to sift from the ceiling of the earthen room. We both stepped into the safety of the tunnel and turned to peer back from whence we had come. The rumbling soon ceased and when the dust cleared, we could see a small alcove that had opened up on the opposite side of the room. My curiosity aroused I stepped back into the chamber and headed for the alcove. Dax must have decided to come investigate the commotion of the ground shaking and I heard his familiar greeting of "Ooh-aah" sound behind me. As I approached I saw two stone pillars in the alcove. Atop one of them lay a sword. Atop the other lay an axe. Albrecht hastily lay claim to the sword as I approached the axe and we both reached for the weapons. No sooner had we hefted the weapons from their perch than the ground began to shake again. I heard Albrecht shout something about the entrance and whirled around to see a stone slab descending out of the top of the door to the tomb. We dove for the door as the slab threatened to close us into the tomb and I breathed a heavy sigh of relief as I rolled under the descending stone. My relief quickly wilted however. Albrecht hadn't made it out. I looked for Dax to help but he was back at the end of the tunnel and seemed to be in a heated debate with someone at the top of the well. I listened intently for any sound of Albrecht on the other side of the stone but heard nothing. Sadly I began searching the walls of the tunnel for a lever or release that would raise the stone slab back up but found nothing. Albrecht was on his own. I traversed my way back down the tunnel to find Dax looking and shouting up the well. Apparently some local trouble makers had raised the rope and bucket up leaving us stranded. I interrupted the ongoing argument to fill Dax in on Albrecht's plight and we both headed back towards the entrance to the chamber. Dax studied the stone for a moment and I could tell by his expression that we really didn't have much of a chance of getting through it to release Albrecht. We stood there for a moment not knowing what to do when the ground again began to shake and the stone slab that had sealed the entrance began to rise. Albrecht stepped out from the dust with a smile on his face and we decided it was time to leave.
We reached the end of the tunnel and after a brief discussion I assured them that I was an excellent climber and started up the wall of the well. Above me I heard someone say " shoot him" but I clenched my teeth and continued. I breeched the top of the well and quickly turned to face the trouble makers. I demanded that they give me the bucket and the rope and they must have known I meant business as they handed the bucket over immediately and apologised repeatedly for their transgression. One of the fellows claimed to be a warrior but by his stature I decided he must have been a former servant recently released from his bondage. The other fellow didn't say much and I so pitied the two of them that I offered to allow them to join our party if they were capable of some contribution. They both gladly accepted and assured me they would be excellent companions. I just hope at least one of them can cook. Quick introductions were made as I lowered the rope back into the well allowing Dax and Albrecht to climb out. Gottfried (the small one who still claims to be a famous pit fighter) and Ellidor who I soon astonishingly realised is an elf. Albrecht and Dax were quite angry with our new companions and I tried to smooth things over by inviting everyone to sit and drink in the inn.
We converesed and drank for a few moments before Gottfried excused himself and sauntered over to two of the barmaids. Somehow I think he sees himself as a lady's man and the experience of the wenches he now stood with shown brilliantly as they both acted as if they were having a good time at his side. Albrecht and Dax still seem to be a little angry about the incident at the well, but I'm sure at some point the two newcomers will prove to be fine companions. Shortly after Gottfried left the table a stranger walked through the door with a message for Dax. We took advantage of the messenger's presence and Albrecht wrote out a message for the mayor of Altdorf informing him of the demise of the prisoner we had attempted to transport to Helmguard before the encounter with Artuta.
After the messenger left, Dax explained to us that his father and his uncles had decided to journey to Karak Azgal in search of relics and treasure and wished for Dax to join them. Having heard many tales of the treasure to be found there I immediately offered to join Dax as did the others and we have made plans to leave for Altdorf tomorrow morning.
It has been a long day and my hand now tires from the length of this journal entry. Tomorrow we set out for Karak Asgal by way of Altdorf.

This morning we found ourselves some new mounts as Artuta had slain everything in the stables the night he decided to return from the grave. We bid farewell to our hosts and with our new found companions set out on the road back to Altdorf. The journey thus far has been uneventful though I have tried to get to know our new companions. The Elf is reserved but I see wisdom in his eyes and he opened up somewhat to me as we travelled. Gottfried is friendly enough and certainly sure of himself. He has persisted so in his charade of being a former pit fighter that I've almost started to believe him. I'm sure a time will come soon enough that he can prove his prowess in battle (ha ha).
I've decided that while in Altdorf I may seek out a healer of some sort and try to purchase something that might aid us if one of us comes to harm. I'm also very interested in finding one of these firearms which Albrecht has come into possession of. They seem quite powerful if not a bit dangerous.

After some unwanted and juvenile antics from a half-starved, alleged pit-fighter and, to my surprise, an elf, whom I would have thought to be beyond such behavior, Grondel, Dax, and I emerged from the well shaft. The thought of perishing within some hole in the ground is none too appealing. I can't fathom how dwarves can spend so much time beneath the surface. Perhaps I will soon have the opportunity to discuss the subject with Dax.
Now that our business in Ostenwald is concluded, we must seek new employment. It is highly unlikely that Siegfried Sauerkraut will be inclined to pay us the balance of our contract since the madman, whom we were charged to deliver safely, was slain by the spirit of Artuta last night.
One less madman in the world is worth a few coins.

What luck! Some relatives of Dax are planning an excursion to the ancient dwarven realm of Karak Azgal and they want him to join them. Dax was gracious enough to invite the rest of us to accompany him. The legendary treasures shall soon be ours… provided we don’t perish in some hole in the ground.
Karak Azgal is a journey of some distance and we are ill prepared. We decided to return to Altdorf and make ready for the trip. I wonder how many healing draughts we can purchase. I intend to acquire some twenty rounds of powder and shot for the pistol given to me by Jared. A little extra protection... in case something should go amiss.

Another early morning saw me and my companions break camp and press on. We arrived in Altdorf this evening, entering through a different gate than the one we departed from. Albrecht, Dax and I have agreed that we should not stay in the same inn as before and that we should in general avoid anyone who might know us from our encounter with Siegfried. Albrecht has found an inn suitable for our situation and we have reserved rooms.
Gottfried wanted to pay a visit to the "Two Teats Leaking" Inn so Ellidor and I joined him. I was hoping we might put Gottfried's "Pit Fighter" skills to the test. If he is as talented a fighter as he claims to be, I thought there would be some opportunity to make some coin by wagering on him in a fight. I'm sure most people would wager against him judging him by his stature. Now I find myself still doubting his abilities as he seemed to avoid any confrontation and spent the rest of the evening with two wenches he met there at the inn. Ellidor and I left him there.
We have made plans to do some shopping in the morning and be on our way as soon as possible. We plan to find a ferry that might speed our journey southward towards Karak Azgal.
