ICE’s Shadow World?

Have any of you explored ICE’s Shadow World setting books much?

I’ve picked up a few Shadow World books over the years in MERP or other RPG lots, but am not deeply familiar with it. I found a few on the cheap at Half Price Books ($2-6 per book) last week, and some have some good Terry Amthor writing and/or Pete Fenlon maps, so they caught my eye, but I’m not otherwise familiar with the setting.

Curious what you might recommend, if anything?

Allan.

Can't say that I have, I barely know much about MERP as it is. I never had the opportunity to explore any systems or setting from ICE back in the day. I like reading back through older books though, I'll have to see if I can dig up some PDFs for Shadow World and see what it's like.

Oops, didn’t mean to create this in the sub-board. Can you move it to the main board, Jay?

Haha, not a problem.

I did some digging in regards to Shadow World but turned up pretty much nothing for PDFs or anything to look through. Reading through various sites and such, it looks like ICE created their own setting, mixing fantasy and technology. They even had a few novels written for the setting. It reminds me a lot of Talislanta in some ways, although they maintained standard fantasy races like elves, but included new races, cultures and such.

I have to wonder how popular it was back when ICE/Rolemaster was a RPG choice for groups.

I had several of the Shadow World books in the early 90s IIRC but never got around to exploring the setting. Rolemaster didn't get a lot of interest with my gamer crew back them so our efforts went to the Greyhawk, DragonLance, and Middle Ages Europe settings.
