Take Man of Steel and The Witcher star Henry Cavill, for example – the man is spending his quarantine by hand-painting miniature Warhammer figurines and it’s not hard to see why people are dubbing him “Hollywood’s favorite geek'. Henry is known as quite a geek among his fans and you’ve probably heard the story of how he missed his first Superman casting because he was too busy playing Warcraft.”.

Speaking of Cavill, btw, Jen and I have been watching the first season of The Witcher, on Netflix. I know it's been out a while but I've just now made time with her to watch. Really good stuff, well written and the characters seem to be portrayed very well compared to the game. Only 5 episodes in and I'm enjoying it more than the final 2-3 seasons of GoT.
Word of warning though, it's not for the kiddos, nudity, sex, blood, gore, etc.

Witcher has good writing for the most part. The first season is based mostly on The Last Wish. I will say the casting choices by and large are horrendous, and the entire executive team outside of writing needs to be replaced. Still they manage to pull it off in spite of themselves for the most part. Definitely worth a watch, but if you're a fan of the books or the setting of Eastern Europe then get ready to have your suspension of disbelief jerked right out from under you.

Kinda in the same boat as Necron 99 there coming to "The Witcher" pretty late in the game (no pun intended...OR IS IT?!), except I got pretty bored in the first episode and gave up. This first episode storyline was so confusing, and I totally agree with Captain Blood on the casting...
Reports from others were generally pretty positive- granted that was from femail viewers who mainly mentioned Cavil, so glad it was successful outside of myself. Good for the genre. But IMO it pales in comparison with "Carnival Rowe," which used a similar approach to its opening story, ie dropping the viewer right in the middle of the fantasy world.

I've not read the books. Had the show been set in an Eastern European environment (architecture, accents, etc., etc.) I think my viewing enjoyment would've been greater.
I didn't hate it and I didn't love it. It doesn't touch GoT seasons 1-4 but is most certainly better than the D&D films and the DragonLance animated shitstain from 2008. On a whim, I tried watching some of that DL animated film and fertheluvvagawd I couldn't take any more after about 12 minutes.

I guess I'm odd man out. Having come into the series after playing the games, aside from one major character not being fitted aesthetically like their in-game character, I think the roles have been portrayed really well. Cavill could use more stubble on his face to match the in-game character look a bit better, but he has the voice spot on.
As for the confusion of the story line, yes, I felt it too. The reason is because they are alternating between different timelines for the main characters, but they give absolutely no indication of this, I assume they think the viewer will eventually sort it out themselves.

Cavill's practically monotone delivery of his lines is what I dislike most about the character. I don't know if that is how the character is supposed to sound in the books but after a while I just want him to stop speaking.

The voice is pretty spot on, at least with the character in game.

Totally agree with this. I very much enjoyed Amazon's Carnival Rowe and I'm really looking forward to the second season. As for Cavill's delivery the character is pretty stoic and monotone so that was okay. He has been around for almost a century and all of his life since childhood has been fighting monsters and being spat on. So I can see where the general apathy comes from. I will be watching the second season of Witcher despite the parts I dislike, but it would be nice if they start making the time jumps a little more obvious.
