Two years ago, I posted in the Movie and TV Trailers thread, about a fan project to crowdfund a new series based on Scooby Doo, called Mystery Incorporated. This series was/is going to be a live action, much darker version, of the Scooby gang's investigations. I never followed up, but found out this evening that the Pilot episode is available to watch for free on YT. The reviews I've seen are pretty favorable, I'm going to give it a watch and if it's good, then I'll probably chip in to see the fruition of further episodes.

I may check it out soon. I listened to the first 30 seconds. The narrator's voice grated my nerves with the vocal fry (aka creaky voice). Guy needs to speak up like a man. That's a big reason I couldn't make it more than 2-3 episodes of the Flash TV show (and I love super speed as a power) - just could not stand to listen to the lead actor speak.

I've noticed a trend for making 'dark and gritty' versions of what were family oriented media. Netflix's Sabrina and Archie series come to mind as good examples. I'm all for experimenting and seeing if something works, but most of these dark remakes really don't sit well with me. It's just reminds that nothing really new and good seems to be being made anymore. If it isn't a sequel, prequel, remake, or reboot it's not getting made.

Regardless if this works out then more power to the creators. I'll be glad to see something of quality.

Emphasis mine.
Some folks have a creative spark for quality film, TV, writing, etc. If a studio backs the project then it will be a HIT. Quality is devoured by viewers, readers, etc. I suspect most networks, publishers, etc. are afraid to take a chance on something new for fear of the bean counters' wrath.
