Agreed. I really think Luke has only two options to improve the convention, reduce and cap the attendance by at minimum, 1k badges if not more and stay at the current venue, or move the convention to either a convention center in LG or move all together to another city that can accommodate larger attendance. Staying where they are with current attendance, will just be poor management.

As for options, if Origins is a no go due to size and possible outbreaks, then for me, Mythic is the easiest choice to make, NTRPG will continue to be a crap shoot because of the timing in conjunction with Em's bday. There are some local cons here around JAX, Savannah, and St. Augustine that I have still not attended, may try and hit up a few to see how they run this year. I imagine they are probably smaller than Mythic West.

I thought Orlando had one or two, even one dedicated to old-school gaming, GrogCon, maybe? May have to look into that too, only a 2.5 hour drive down there and the girls could always spend time at Disney while I'm gaming so it might be a win-win. For now, Mythic Charlotte and maybe West again next year, will be my most probable.
Emphasis mine.

Doing some digging, looks like there was a GrogCon last October in Orlando, judging by the pics, it looks like it was maybe two dozen folks, so not big at all. Their webpage looks like it promotes only the old-school stuff, all the TSR stuff, Traveller, Paranoia, etc. however, I don't see anything indicating whether there will be an event this year.

However, it also appears that GrogCon might have been rolled into a small con, similar to Mythic West, called Crucible+QuestCon. That one is planned already for Sep 6-8, 2024. I think this one is just a general gaming convention based on the blurb from the FB group.
Crucible returns 9/6-9/8 at the Doubletree Universal in Orlando. We have more game systems planned than ever before and earlybird discount badges go on sale next week. Keep your eyes on this space as we announce the various events coming your way for 2024. Our collaboration with Questcon continues, so not only are there a ton of great miniatures tournaments, we've also got 70+ curated vendors and creators, RPGs, Boardgames, guests, panels, and social events planned. Start planning your weekend of gaming and hobby now!
Best I can tell, Crucible is a miniatures focused convention that is now teaming up with QuestCon to encompass everything. I managed to catch a couple pics and video, saw someone running AD&D, also saw some 5e but I guess that's expected. From pics and a video, I'd say probably less than 300 folks. Might be a nice con to introduce some C&C, I'll have to keep my eye on it. Super easy drive, there and back, for a weekend.

It seems like you had a pretty swell time at GaryCon this year, does this change your opinion about possibly not attending in the coming years? I know, like James and I, you had mentioned you might be calling it quits.

As for the goodies you brought back, I like to look of that Original Edition supplement; the style of the original 3LBs is nice to see on something new. Overall looks like a decent haul.

I always have a good time, and things were definitely smoother this year, despite (or perhaps because of?) the two conventions running one after the other. I had some minor hiccups in that I got no DM swag from GaryCon (but perhaps I didn’t DM sufficient hours, who knows), and the changes in layout in the dealer hall meant I had to reconfigure my booth setup on the fly (which worked out fine too). But I actually got more playing time at Founders & Legends than I’ve had at GC in a very long time.

Our vendor hall sales rebounded this year, so that was good to see. We won’t know if that was a fluke for the 50th until after next year, though….

As long as Black Blade still exhibits there, I imagine we’ll continue to do GaryCon. If there was a way to go and still play as much as this year, that would be ideal, but that’s a problem to solve next year….

I pinged Victor about the Doomground booklet, and it’s not quite ready to share, needing another round of edits and feedback, but I imagine that he’ll have it available soon-ish. I’ll let you know when it’s generally available!
