A wee little rant here about football players, coaches, and announcers.

Why the hell do they insist on overusing the word "football" when they speak? The context of the discussion is obvious during pre-game, game time, and post-game as to the sport in question. Here is an example from Patrick Mahomes, the QB of the KC Chiefs, after last night's game against the Buffalo Bills in which the Chiefs lost.

It’s a good football team, so there’s nothing to hang your head on,” Mahomes said, according to Pro Football Talk.

Your team played a football team tonight? GASP! No shit, meathead! Thanks for enlightening those who might confused the game with water polo.

“We feel like we can play better, so we will get back to work and try to use this as a spark so that we can be a better football team in the end.

Seriously? Good to hear you're not splitting your time to improve as a curling team.

The undefeated thing was cool, but that’s not our ultimate goal. . . . I’m hoping that it is a benefit. I’m not going to say I or we relaxed, but at the same time, I feel like we were just coming away with these wins at the end of the game.

“I think it’s going to spark us to have more urgency, especially at the start of football games, especially with the offense, and that comes from me and turning the ball over on the first drive. It’s something you can’t do in big games like this."

When you say "it's going to spark us", you mean the KC Chiefs, right? Your team, right? The team everyone knows is part of the NFL and what sport those teams in the league play.

It becomes aggravating trying to watch a game on TV and hearing all the overly concussed meatheads pad their discussion with unnecessary repetition of the word football.

OK. I'm done. Until next time.

Some days it's therapeutic to go off on stuff like this. I can't remember the exact situation but I recall something similar in the past when I was either watching or listening to something. Whomever it was kept repeating a word or phrase over and over in the same manner. Drove me nuts, to the point I couldn't even focus on the topic because then my brain was stuck on picking out each time it was said.

Perhaps you can send him an email with a friendly reminder that everyone knows which game it is, that is being played.
