Saw a story online and and figured it would be worth posting here in case anyone uses the products in question.

Two brands of aerosol deodorant spray have been recalled because of the cancer-causing chemical benzene.

The voluntary recall includes Brut and Sure spray products. While benzene is not an ingredient in any of the recalled products, a review found the chemical in the propellant that sprays the deodorant out of the can. It's classified as a human carcinogen, according to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, and has been linked to leukemia and blood cancer. Emphasis mine.

The products being recalled nationwide are:

Brut Classic Antiperspirant Aerosol, 4 oz. (UPC 00827755070085)
Brut Classic Antiperspirant Aerosol, 6 oz. (UPC 000827755070108)
Brut Classic Deodorant Aerosol, 10 oz. (UPC 00827755070047)
Sure Regular Antiperspirant Aerosol, 6 oz. (UPC 00883484002025)
Sure Unscented Antiperspirant Aerosol, 6 oz. (UPC 00883484002278)

The recalled products have expiration dates of August 2023 or earlier. If you have any of these products, the FDA advises you to stop using them and throw them away. For more information and to request a refund, visit this site https://www.brutsurerecall2022.com/en set up by the products' parent company.

This comes on the heels of other benzene-related recalls. In November, Procter & Gamble recalled several Old Spice and Secret aerosol sprays. A month later, the company also recalled aerosol dry shampoos and conditioners from brands including Pantene, Aussie, and Herbal Essences.

It is mind boggling how companies can include in any way benzene in their products. Hopefully no one here is using the aforementioned items!

Thankfully I never transitioned to aerosol spray deodorant, still prefer the stick, but good to know for those that do use spray.

I used aerosol sprays in the past but not those brands. Hopefully the brands I used weren't contaminated with benzene or any other carcinogen. I stopped using spray deodorants about 10 years ago in favor of solids, almost exclusively those without aluminum. IIRC, aluminum in deodorants can be absorbed into the body, possibly contributing to plaque in the brain after years of use. Brain + plaque = bad news.

Hmmm. Well aren't you just full of good news today.
Excuse me while I go check my deodorant for aluminum.

Anti-perspirants all contain aluminum. If it's just a deodorant it won't have aluminum. Next time your in the hygiene aisle at the store compare the two and you'll see. The aluminum content in anti-perspirants also contributes the discoloring of your clothes.

I don't use any of those brands. I'm a stick guy too, but thank you for the heads up!

Found an interesting video today. Th example he mentions about trying to find either 10 obese or 10 extreme athletic body types at Woodstock is spot on.

Yep. Un-ass the couch and do something, cut out the junk (garbage in, garbage out), and eat better quality foods. It really is simple.

This is a really cool discussion about how hormones and stress can lead to gaining fat or prevent someone from losing it.

Hormones and stress can contribute to weight gain. Good nutrition and portion control is key. A messed up thyroid can really jack up weight management. And stress just sucks. It can lead to so many more problems than weight management. Lisa has a friend who is going through so much stress with her job that her hair is falling out!
