Pipes, Pints, and Polyhedrons

Cool.

I especially like how 5e and PooFinder are farthest away from everything else.

So one of my sessions at Mythic West is a Savage Worlds game, Savage Bloodshadows: Voyage of Doom. Here is the description of the adventure:

Players are travelling from Galitia to Dela on a Tramp Steamer on the old Skorn River, when things goes quite awry.

It may not sound like much, but I've been a fan of the Bloodshadows setting, ever since the old WEG Star Wars d6 system days. I never got around to playing or running it, but the setting struck a lot of chords with me for supernatural-pulp adventures.

The spellslinger upstairs conjures too loud. The guy down the hall drinks blood from a six-pack. That stiff you left in the alley is walking again. The undead factory workers are on strike. Your client skipped town before paying. And your landlord is looking for his rent.

Bloodshadows combines pulp adventure with dark fantasy and noir stylings. Tough detectives in weathered trenchcoats swap biting comments with vampires in evening gowns. Humans walk the dark streets of the city alongside demonic breeds and long-dead ghouls. Magic is everywhere, even if just to light a cigarette. Death waits around every corner--undeath sometimes follows. The Wilderness holds even more danger, kept at bay only by city gates and those who patrol them. It's a dark, brooding world filled with shadows and wonders.

If you've ever watched the movie, Cast a Dead Spell or read any of the Dresden Files novels, it's pretty much like that. Anyhow, today in the Mythic Con FB group, Ron, the guy running the session, posted a preview of what to expect and hot damn, I can't wait, his setup looks like it will be a lot of fun. I thought I'd share the picture he posted.

That's a helluva set up! Why am I thinking of Titanic?.....

I read the first Dresden Files book several years ago. Might get around to more of them at some point.

Mythic Con West was a success. Had a chance to play several sessions, including Basic Fantasy, C&C, The One Ring, and Savage Worlds. Great time, met some cool folks, hung out with even cooler folks. Looking forward to attending Mythic Con Charlotte in the November.

My dwarf got to fight an undead displacer beast.
My hobbit landed a piercing blow on a stone troll's foot.
My novelist was sucked out of the hold of a tramp steamer, into another dimension and eaten by a worm god.
And my elven wizard ended up mutating into a yuan-ti/naga/snake/thingy.

I got back to Omaha @ 8:30 +/- PM. Long day of travel but everything went smoothly.

Had a GREAT time hanging and gaming with you and Ben! I would absolutely consider hitting MC West again. No playing dress up. No costume contests. No talent shows. No DJs playing lame tunes. JUST GAMING - Hell Yeah.

I played in a Basic Fantasy game and had a blast running the dumb-as-a-rock-but-strong-as-an-ox fighter.
I played a henpecked hobbit on The One Ring 2e. Still had fun.
I played a janitor (ex-marine) in the Aliens RPG. Great intro scenario wrecked in the last 3 minutes by some Hollywood level bad writing.

The transformation effect turns folks into house ruled variants of ophidians from AD&D MM II which are slavishly devoted to the naga. I admit to quite enjoying using my 15-minute timer to hand out the index cards so that players can incrementally experience the steps in the transformation. Heh.

On the flight back to OMA, I started rolling around ideas for a new C&C scenario to run at a convention(s)...

Glad to hear the trip back was easy going.

I too was pondering adventure ideas for the next one. Snows on the Fallen has a general concept already, but I have to tighten up the details and add all the other stuff. Pretty sure I'm going to run Crows in the Pine already, since that one is ready to go. Outside of those two, not sure what else I want to throw down. I'm thinking to rework my Buried adventure, not sure if I want to keep it in White Box or convert it to C&C.

Having played The One Ring now, I don't think it would be a system I would like to run, at least not for a one shot at a convention; I feel like it would fare better run as a home campaign. Most likely, I'll run some Savage Worlds, I like the system and have have plenty of options for settings.

Buried would be easy to convert as-is to C&C. If you wanted to tweak (as opposed to re-write) anything it would be easy to do so.

Having now played a session of TOR2e, I'll probably not sign up for another... unless the scenario occurs in Moria.

Had an absolute blast with you gents! It was so much fun catching up with you both for the first time in 10 years (in person anyway)!!

I very much enjoyed running my game and having James play the big, dumb, much needed(!) muscle. I'm just sorry Jay's dwarf didn't get more of an opportunity to display that heroism (from a bottle as it was). Maybe next time! At least you weren't the thief that almost got away before being crushed by his own party member's boot heel (so awesome) after drinking that potion to shrink down in an effort to escape.

And thanks for running a splendid C&C game, Big G!! Good times playing in one of your games again. Been far too long. Took me back to the 90's when we met, sitting at your table for the first time, thumbing through your 5 pages of house rule modified AD&D 1E while you sat there with your game face on. Yeah c'mon!

Looking forward to November and seeing you again. James - bring Lisa, stay for the con, and then go somewhere nice for a few days to celebrate the anniversary.

You did a great job running the game. It was easily the best event I played in during the con.

You should write a sequel adventure that utilizes the same pre-gens but advance them each 1 level. And maaaaybe have Bork be a "Sir" for services rendered. Imagine the INT 5 and WIS 6 Bork with some real "au-thori-TAH"... I'll sign up for that and call dibs on Bork!

Glad you enjoyed the game. I was going for a mix of action, exploration, and weird shit to entertain / confound the players. Whether its at MC in Charlotte or a con in 2025, I'll run another game so be ready to jump in. Yeeeeeah, c'mon!
