I found another video about Mythras but this time it is a compare / contrast discussion with 5e. Good stuff.
Every time I find a good Mythras video I am tempted to try my hand at learning and running the game. So may projects, so little time....

I hear a lot of good stuff from folks that enjoy the system. It's just one of those things that requires learning a new system and then putting it out there on the table.
And speaking of, I have a new RPG I picked up recently, a new horror themed RPG. I'll have to post about it later on today in a new thread.

Still rolling Mythras around in my head.
I'm entertaining the idea of running some combat demos at Gary Con XVI in '24. I'd provide pre-gens, of course. Since GC XVI will be the 50th anniversary of D&D, there should be so many D&D games on the schedule that the proverbial dead cat couldn't be swung without bowling a strike (as it should be for the 50th). I figure I could enact an idea I discussed with Cap'n Blood a few years ago and make the pre-gens several of the fighter types from the Game of Thrones show to, hopefully, attract some attention for a non-D&D game.
Some of the characters I have in mind for pre-gens include Ser Barristan Selmy, Brienne of Tarth, Ser Gregor Clegane (The Mountain), Ser Jaime Lannister, Khal Drogo, Prince Oberyn Martell (The Red Viper), Robert Baratheon, and Sandor Clegane (The Hound). I don't know how many I'd generate... maybe 6 at most... then let players roll randomly to determine which character they get to run in The Grand Mêlée.
Who wouldn't want to see a rematch between The Red Viper and The Mountain?

Here's a short video discussing the reach of weapons in Mythras combat. I like this optional rule as it helps with making weapon selection more important.
And since the preceding video mentioned "combat specials" (think of them as special effects / maneuvers) I figured I'd post a video giving some info about them.

Sounds like the Mythras folks have put a lot of thought into the combat aspects of the game, making for very technical and strategic play. It almost sounds like a skirmish game wrapped in an RPG coating.

IIRC, one of the designers participates in medieval combat reenactments so that, most likely, influenced some combat options. I like the range and combat elements as it makes for a nice change of pace from whittle-them-down-to-zero-HP, wack-a-mole combats d20 games can become. Combat in Mythras should not be the first answer to every problem as the system can be harsh with minor/serious/major wounds. Major wounds can be crippling or lethal.... Fun stuff!

Here is another Mythras video covering fatigue. This is a gaming topic I've thought about from time to time as it doesn't make sense for combatants to be just as fresh after an extended melee.
Overall I like the approach though I'm sure I'd house rule the length of time before any checks are made at the strenuous level.
Enjoy!
