When I think about getting away from the (A)D&D and clones to try some different gaming goodness, Mythras, produced by The Design Mechanism, is one of the systems that usually pops into my mind. It is basically RuneQuest 6, a skill-based percentile system, with all the Glorantha stuff removed... which is fine by me! IIRC I played a session of RQ6 back at GenCon 2012 and enjoyed the game. One of these days I can see trying my hand at running a demo session for Mythras. With that in mind, here are some links with more info on Mythras:

I agree with the sentiment of taking a step away from the (A)D&D system and trying out others. Mythras would be a good system, I like the percentiles that RQ and CoC use. There also seems to be a good variety of supplements and settings for that system. Definitely interested in giving it a try if given the opportunity.

Since Mythras is a skills-based system, I figured a video discussing how skills work in Mythras would provide a good foundation for learning about the game.

Looks fun, I'd be interested in playing a round if you want to demo it.

I can do that one of these days. We should definitely give this a go.

I would be interest. Would we play on something like Roll20? I run my Call of Cthulhu game there.

Thanks for your interest! If I run a demo of this it will be when folks can get together for face-to-face gaming. The extent of my involvement with Roll20 is on the player side. So keep watching various threads here. We'll be getting something organized at some point for a gamer gathering. 8-)

Tonight I figured "what the hell" and decided to open my Mythras Core Rules, grabbed some dice, a blank character sheet, and started generating my first character for the system.

This is good stuff! I generated characteristics which are used for derived attributes, worked up height, weight , body frame, age, social class (which determines what items you start with for free and a modifier to starting money), the starting money, career (warrior),notes on background, community and family. Skills take the most time as you have to figure the base % for Standard Skills then you get Cultural Skill & points to distribute then you get Career Skills & points to distribute based on age.

I didn't finish everything - need to fill in info on Combat Styles, weapons, armor, encumbrance and movement.

Its definitely more involved than (A)D&D, C&C, and DCC but nowhere as chunky as HarnMaster.

I imagine I'll probably generate a second warrior character then take the combat system for a spin.... maybe a spear v sword contest. I'll post results here whenever I get around to it.

Here's a video discussing character generation from characteristics up to starting money. The video doesn't cover background events, buying gear, and references some other videos but this one is a good starting point.
