It's been a while since I've broken out my Bakshi version of LotR and taken it for a spin, but I did that today while working at home for some background ambiance.
I've always enjoyed the animation style from similar movies of that era, but watching the movie on my monitor, I realized today, how just how alien and AD&D parts of that movie were, specifically the journey through Moria. I grabbed some still shots, to post, showing off some of those aspects that viewers may not pay much attention to.
The stairs and statues on either side of the Moria entrance.
A front view of the same scene with one of the dwarven faces
Skull of some unknown beast hanging in the halls.
Labyrinth of stairs and some fanged-dwarven face, maybe?
Room with the well, angry dwarven carved faces.
The bridge with Gandalf and the Balrog, carved imps and other demon looking statues.

I've been following Ralph Bakshi on FB. He recently posted some really cool concept art that was used for the animated film.
These pieces were by the artist Tom Lay.

FYI, Forge of Ice is starting to look at producing Bakshi-style orcs and goblins as miniatures

I've seen Fire & Ice in the past decade, but it's probably been another 10+ years since I watched Wizards or the LOTR animateds....

Bakshi had posted this on one of his media feeds, these are deleted clips from his 1978 LotR, which took place after Gandalf and the Balrog fell, in Moria. Cool to watch, but I'm glad they were deleted, it reminds me more of Don Bluth, like the scenes from Dragon's Lair. Apparently these were pieced together from cell clips they had left over.

Related to Bakshi's Fire and Ice film, looks like there are plans to bring out a 40th anniversary edition, along with a prequel comic book and a table-top RPG. Stoked to hear about the RPG, I hope it's faithful to the movie and not convoluted. I have the entire collection of books/screen for Bakshi's Wizards, having F&I would be nice as a compliment.

With the coming 2023 marking 40 years since the 1983 release of the original film, now more than ever is the time to celebrate and continue the legacy of this innovative and memorable film. Dynamite is working alongside the Frazetta family and Bakshi Productions with talented creators to craft a truly special set of follow-ups that will delight fans new and old.
In addition to a thrilling comic book prequel, Fire and Ice will also be coming to gamers’ tabletops! The expansive fantasy mythos and memorable characters will translate perfectly to the roleplaying sphere where these tropes are beloved by gamers who play the likes of Dungeons & Dragons, Pathfinder as more, with many games taking inspiration from Fire and Ice and Bakshi’s other fantasy films. The exact format and design of the game is to be revealed.
