Fantasy Flight Games is introducing a new upcoming board game, currently for pre-order. I'll keep an eye on this one and see how the reviews are before possibly making a purchase. It reminds me of the new Mansions of Madness in play and look and so far that one has gotten good reviews.
Fantasy Flight Games is proud to announce The Lord of the Rings: Journeys in Middle-earth, a fully cooperative, app-supported board game for one to five players, inviting you to become the greatest heroes of Middle-earth!

The Lord of the Rings: Journeys in Middle-earth lets you embark on your own adventures in J.R.R. Tolkien’s iconic world, embodying heroes of the Free Peoples and fighting back against the oppressive might of Sauron. You’ll battle villainous foes, make courageous choices, and strike a blow against the evil that threatens the land—all as part of a thrilling campaign that leads you across the storied hills and dales of Middle-earth.

I hate this new trend that includes/requires a smart phone to play a board game. So far I've only tried the XCOM board game and it was awful. The app took away immersion and made things way more complicated than needed.

You're not the only one, Sam. I read quite a few comments online when I visited the site for this and more than one person didn't care for the addition of the "app". I somewhat understand it, since it acts as a "gm" so that a person doesn't have to play the opposing side, but I think that there should at least be an option for having a person run the scenarios if so inclined.
