Found this video on YT, discussing the key factors that describe old-school gaming in the TSR era of D&D and AD&D 1e.

This would be a really cool way to execute a CAMPAIGN if there were enough people to form multiple parties and someone willing to serve as a DM.....

Running a "living" campaign, similar to what he describes, is something I've always wanted to do with convention adventures. Players playing in sessions throughout a year, each year, affect how the setting evolves and develops, session to session and year to year.

So you'd take and make notes of what occurs in sessions (actions taken, not taken, ideas spoken, etc) and use them to craft subsequent years' adventures, right?Necron 99 wrote: ↑June 24th, 2022, 9:01 am Running a "living" campaign, similar to what he describes, is something I've always wanted to do with convention adventures. Yep, exactly. It's basically throwing down the proverbial sandbox and letting the players run amok and just tracking what happens. Imagine a group of players who delve a dungeon, and then another group following their footsteps but maybe traps are already sprung, original monsters already slain and new one's having taken over, treasure already looted, corpses of fallen adventurers possibly still lying around, NPCs who make mention of characters that they've encountered in other sessions, etc. It's a pretty nifty idea if you can set up the right sort of open-world adventures and such for any and every character to possibly engage with.
