My last in-person campaign, C&C based in the TLG setting of Aihrde, went on hiatus in March 2020 when the first case of COVID was identified at a medical center about 1.5 miles from where I live. Since then I've played a goodly amount of online gaming via Roll20 and Discord. A good way under the circumstances to stay in touch with friends both near and far. I appreciate all of them and the efforts put into their respective games!

This past summer I jumped back into softball and was quite successful in 3 different leagues. Great times getting back outdoors on the fields for the running, throwing, hitting, fielding, and post game rehydration. I affirmed that I can still compete with, and many times out play, guys half my age. 8-)

Now I'm starting to get the itch to run an in-person game again after 2.5 years.

I don't have a group at present. Five members of my last group moved out of state and out of country so recruiting players will be an issue. I don't want to run 5e so finding players around here willing to deviate from the local norm will be an issue. I want to run C&C with the House Rules I developed. And I'm pretty sure I want to return to an old friend, The World of Greyhawk, to base a campaign.

Having reviewed the World of Greyhawk yellow boxed set, I'm looking hard at the Kingdom of Furyondy as the launch point for a potential campaign. Furyondy appeals to me for the following reasons
1. It is a feudal kingdom divided into distinct baronies
2. Being a feudal kingdom, there are plenty of opportunities for players to run PC knights (a C&C class I enjoy)
3. Roughly 80% of the population is human
4. It has allies and enemies on its borders
5. Two of its enemies are the Horned Society and Iuz
6. It isn't terribly far from the Freecity of Greyhawk
7. The number of castles and keeps in Furyondy allows me to use a variety of castles and keeps from Columbia Games HarnWorld setting to flesh out the kingdom..
8. I've never used it in a previous campaign

I have ideas in mind for the first 3 adventures to get things moving if I can find enough interested and suitable players. Five players is ideal. My last group grew to 8 before COVID hit and I handled that number pretty easily.

Will this go anywhere? Who can say? All I know is that the urge to build a campaign is still there so time will tell. ;)

I will be following. I loved Furyondy back in the day. Ran some campaigns in the Greyhawk: From the Ashes box set where Furyondy is struggling to rebuild and strike back after a devasting war with Iuz.

Cool, man! I'm looking at using the 1e Greyhawk standard 576 CY so several years before what became known as the Greyhawk Wars.

I've seen multiple ways to pronounce Furyondy on the intarwebz. I decided to stick with my initial pronunciation as fury'-on-dee with fury pronounced as in the US.

For my Furyondy campaign, I'll permit all classes from the C&C PHB and the Archer, Magic-User, Thief, and Warrior Priest from the Adventurers Backpack. All are subject to modification per my House Rules.

Multi-classing is prohibited but the Class-and-a-Half option is available to those who dabble in the abilities of a class other than the one for which they spent years training to rise above the 0-level masses.

Nice, sounds like a good line-up so far.

Thanks! Also sticking with the races offered in the PHB. No half-this-half-than nonsense from the TETSNBN era or monstrosities like dragonborn and TIE Fighters (tieflings) from 4ron and WotC's current offering.

The Kingdom of Furyondy is about 80% human which fits perfectly with Gygax's humanocentric approach to AD&D.

The campaign is unquestionably “humanocentric”, with demi-humans, semi-humans, and humanoids in various orbits around the sun of humanity. Men are the worst monsters, particularly high-level characters such as clerics, fighters, and magic-users — whether singly, in small groups, or in large companies.

The game features humankind for a reason. It is the most logical basis for the game. From a design aspect it provides the sound groundwork. From a standpoint of creating the campaign milieu it provides the most readily usable assumptions. From a participation approach it is the only method, for all players are, after all is said and done, human, and it allows them the role with which most are most desirous and capable of identifying.

I intend to add 4 minor noble Houses to Furyondy that will be more suitable for beginning and lower level PCs (and PC Adventuring Companies) to potentially gain audience and interact with. They are drawn from other campaigns in which I played so I don't have to reinvent the wheel for every aspect of development.

The Houses are, in alphabetical order, DeGarmo, DeGroff, Penrose, and Raventhorpe. I've already determined the heads of heach House and where the respective seats of power will be located within Furyondy's borders. I have castle / keep floor plans determined for two of the Houses. This is just more info to use for fleshing out the kingdom and helping breathe more life into the setting.... 8-)

EDIT: I will generate a coat of arms for each of the minor Houses. Players of knight characters will be required to create their own based on which House they serve.
