Yeah, he has what I would consider, a pretty moderate narrative bend to his campaign. Some of the questions he asked in Pt. 1, reminded me of a few other RPGs that I own, which have mechanics that focus on giving the characters something to follow other than just mindless loot/kill. In at least one of those systems, there are spots on the character sheet for Beliefs, Goals, and Instincts. Players earn more experience when role-playing those elements and sticking to them. They also start off with some background and history with aspects such as a Mentor, who has instructed the character, prior to being an "adventurer", in some school or profession, that gives benefits and experience for skills later on.

I prefer for the info he asked to (hopefully) develop organically over the course of play in campaigns I run. Definitely see why he point blank asked the background questions since the Reviled storyline was only going to last 3 or so episodes / sessions per the original plan.
