Last night was my first session running OSE for a group that I have been playing with for awhile. We have played Call of Cthulhu 5th edition, Runequest, the new Top Secret, Traveller, Legend of the Five Rings and Warhammer Fantasy 4th Edition. Right now we are rotating between Runequest and my OSE game. I am using X4 Master of the Desert Nomads with the plan to run the sequel X5 Temple of Death
The murder hobos were out in force. Fights over magic items, characters planning on killing other characters. It was just like it was when I was 15 only now we are a bunch of middle aged men. Well, middle aged men and one teenager and one 20 year old. Two of the players have their sons playing with us. I had a blast. They players learned quickly that OSE\Basic D&D is a lot less forgiving than 5th Edition.

Good to hear from you again!
Indeed. Death at 0 HPs and no multiple death saves.
How many PCs have bought the farm so far?

Shockingly, only one so far. A magic user got torn to pieces by a weretiger. There have been some close calls. The party dwarf nearly bought the farm fighting a troll.Ancalagon wrote: ↑June 19th, 2023, 1:27 am Good to hear fro you again!

Sounds awesome for sure!
Last session of my Basic D&D game, we had our first legit character death when Littlefoot, the halfling, fell. They were exploring the barrow of an Elf warrior and after retrieving an enchanted sword, Lightbringer, they were set upon by animated, lizardmen statues. After Littlefoot fell, the rest of the party was able to backup and use a narrow doorway to fight them one by one.
I'm pulling the DCC rule for "roll the body" after combat, to determine whether or not the PCs have simply been knocked out due to injuries, or slain. So far it seems to be working well. In the first session, the party's fighter was downed by a giant scorpion, but after rolling the body, it was found that the fighter was still alive, only unconscious. After a trip back to town, a visit with the local clergy, and a few days of rest, they were ready to head back out to the Barrowmoors.

Littlefoot will be missed. He was the only party member the rest of us could reliably put in front and still throw/shoot things over his head.
I just bought the OSE Player's and Referee's Tomes at the FLGS (Gamer's Haven) yesterday. After some yard work and upgrading a PC (computer, not character) I plan to get back to reading the Player's Tome today.

Good to see you again on the 3Ps!
Necrotic Gnome has a 3rd party publishing option for use with OSE. I'd still like to do this some day...alester wrote: ↑June 19th, 2023, 12:06 pm Littlefoot will be missed. He was the only party member the rest of us could reliably put in front and still throw/shoot things over his head.

I used the pregens from the module. We actually have some pregens doing double duty. The magic user, the elf and the cleric.
Two 8th level clerics,
Two 6th level Elves
Two 8th level Magic Users (The clerics are high enough to raise dead and one of them brought back the Magic User that got torn to pieces by the weretiger.)
One 7th level Dwarf
One 9th level Fighter
One 7th level Thief

I played session two a few weeks ago. I had forgotten how powerful high level magic users and elves can be. My players have been playing to the strengths of the systems magic system extremely well. I am actually pleasantly surprised by how well they have done.
