A few days ago I was texting with Anc about an idea I had for my Iava Sul setting. I was thinking about moving the town from the coast, further inland to lay on the outer fringe of the Hinterlands, while adding another smaller port village along the coast, to allow some treks and adventure traveling from the coast, inland.

Anyhow, long story short, I started chasing rabbits down holes and what not. By the end of it, I was looking at something that I had formerly not considered.

This setting was designed for B/X (and BECMI) D&D, therefore by default, OSE. I'm really liking the idea I posted about prior, of starting off in a small area and letting the characters get ingrained in a local area for a while, then casually and slowly expanding outward. The Karameikos gazetteer for Mystara is a great example of a small setting to spend months/years of adventuring in. Human and demi-human threats aside, there is also no lack of threat from humanoids and monsters roaming the open wilds.
  • The geography in the Grand Duchy of Karameikos is comprised of farm land, light forests, heavy forests, swamps, hills, mountains, rivers, and coastline.
  • The populace in the kingdom consists of a capital city, baronies, estates, towers, towns, villages, and forts.
  • The people in society are made up of noble families, convicts, freemen, knights, barons, dukes, guilds, clergy, cults and orders.
Overall, the world is a pretty standard setting for B/X. I've read through some of the Gaz books here and there, but never really considered running in them until now. I'm looking forward to see how it works out.
