On Kickstarter I noticed that the old C&S RPG is being revamped and updated.

Chivalry & Sorcery, the legendary game of medieval fantasy roleplaying, is back! Standing on the shoulders of giants, with refined mechanics and a deep, rich atmosphere, this brand-new edition is bigger and better than ever before, and for the first time ever is brought to you as a full colour hardback book!

Since its first edition back in 1977, Chivalry & Sorcery's guiding principle has always been that no one is an island. Every character you play will have been shaped by the society around them - even your landless adventurer or free-booting wanderer had a home and family once!

Chivalry & Sorcery character generation therefore gives you the tools to create well-rounded characters who really feel like they belong to their world. Knights wield secular power and command the battlefield, while other warriors strive to win their spurs in combat and rise to join their ranks. Magick is deep and mysterious, drawing on real-world historical detail, and encompasses many forms, from divination magic to illusions, from harnessing the elemental powers of Air, Earth, Fire and Water, to enchanting wondrous items and artifacts of great power. Priests utter prayers and call upon the very miracles of their gods!
In Chivalry & Sorcery, you decide the level of magic and fantasy for your game. Run a medieval high fantasy game filled with magic, miracles and myth, archmages, elementalists, and dragonfire - or one of gritty, low fantasy, or even pure historical simulation. The choice is yours!

From fairy-tale romance to courtly love, from religious intrigue to brutal, bloody battle, Chivalry & Sorcery lets you play in just the Middle Ages you want. It caters for the full gamut of your medieval fantasy needs, from knightly vigils and holy quests, dynasties and domain management, right through to gaggles of bad-ass goblins and terrifying dragons.

Wow! Thanks for posting that. Had no idea a kickstarter was underway for a new edition of C&S. I've never played C&S but I have looked at some of the much older versions. Extremely crunchy! But some of the supplemental material was well thought out and useful.

I'm inclined to jump in on this one but will peruse the quickstart rules to try and get a feel for what Britannia Game Designs has in mind. At 500 pages I hope it has a lot of critters and NPCs to add depth to the game system. I'm not looking for extreme crunch in the rules... maybe something a little on the soggy side for convenience of play.

I know nothing of the original game/system. Some of the art shown for this edition is meh, some looks really good like the ones above, the system I know nothing about, I'll need to grab the preview and check it out also.

Awright. I backed this one at the top level so I can have a fief in the game setting then asked the designer if he'd consider using my gaming group's coat of arms for the fief. Never hurts to ask, right?

If any of the other 3Ps members back the KS at the same level, we could coordinate an alliance between our fiefs which just sounds geeky cool to me since Brittania Games plans to create a community program on Drivethrurpg, akin to the Miskatonic Repositry and others. Those who back at the Top Level will receive an enhanced licence allowing them to create material relating to their fief, adventures, NPC;s etc. This material will be the only Marakush material licensed to be on the community program, the C&S Scriptorium.

Might be some cool potential there.... 8-)

I didn't recognize any of the original C&S designer names as involved in the KS---did they explain anything about how they secured the rights to C&S?

Allan.

I think several of the original C&S designers are now deceased. All I've found about the rights to the game was a statement in the KS page that reads, "Started BGD Ltd in 1997 and shortly after acquired the C&S IP. Since then have gone on to create a number of C&S books, personally involved in 4th Ed and the Marakush setting."

With 11 days to go, the KS is about to unlock another stretch goal of music commissioned for the project. So far so good!

Did anyone else here at 3Ps go in on the KS?

Received the book a couple of weeks ago and this thing is BIG. Heh. I haven't had time to really delve into it yet; maybe after GCXII.

One of the guys in my gaming group went in on the KS at the same level I did so we'll both have a fief in the game's default setting of Marakush. Unfortunately, the designer never got back with me about using my group's coat of arms for my fief.

Nice! Interested to hear what you think after you've had time to read through it.
